Help with a deer rifle selection?

I need an inexpensive, reliable deer rifle. What should I get in an up to $350 price rangeHelp with a deer rifle selection?
Inexpensive?

Marlin XL or XS (long or short action) with a junky cheap scope included in the package should run you $350, $325 without

(note I will link to bud's but expect to pay a bit more at oyur local store, or buy at buds and factor in a $25 processing fee)

Same for the Mossberg ATR

Same with Remington 715 and just a bit more for the 770. (You may even come across a few Remington 710, if you do RUN AWAY)

Same with the Savage-Stevens

I'd rank these guns, best to worst, as follows

Remington 715

Marlin XL

Mossberg ATR

Remington 770

Savage-Stevens

I'd think about getting a Stevens myself, but I'd also suggest you seriously think about throwing another $200 in and getting a rifle that will last you a lifetime. The following rifles will probably last you 5-10 hunting seasons. Spend $200 more and get a rifle that will last 50-100 hunting seasons.

Also note, the scopes included in packaged guns are total junk. They tend to not hold zero worth a crap and fog up easily. Unfortunately, sometimes the cheapest line of guns is ONLY avaiable with the scope, because the marketing department knows people will think 'wow, a scope!' and buy it.

For a few years Remington had the 798, but they seem gone from the catalog now. That is too bad, I think they were one of the most economical yet very solidly built rifles out there. Now, I'd suggest looking at the Savage 11 or 111 (short and long action, 10 or 110 if you want wood rather than synthetic ,and 16 or 116 if you want stainless steel and synthetic)Help with a deer rifle selection?
Look for a used Rem 700,740,742,760,7400,7600 or Savage.

A Stevens model runs around 300 new.
Get a used Winchester model 70. I love that rifle, and the 30-06 packs plenty a punch. You don't want to be on the other side of that thing. Accurate, reliable, and tough.
Go down to your local gun store or pawn shop and see what they have for sale, you'll get a pretty good idea what you can get for your money.
You can get a nice milsurp like a Mauser98k or a LeeEnfield,Mosin Nagant in the 200 or 300range.Or get a brand new Stevens..

Go to Wal-mart, maybe you can find a Mossberg in that range. Look for a 30-06, 7mm rem mag, and 300 win or wby mag.
You can't go wrong with a Winchester or Remington rifle.
