Missouri deer hunting, Can i hunt with a 40 caliber glock?

can i carry a 40 caliber hand gun while hunting deer during rifle season in missouriMissouri deer hunting, Can i hunt with a 40 caliber glock?
direct quote from missouri 2007 fall deer and turkey reg book

the methods allowed are as follows for mo

centerfire pistol, revolver or rifle using expanding type bullets

shotgun with slugs only

muzzleloader

archery

crossbow

you can carry both a rifle and handgun, i do and have for years there is no restriction against it and many in mo do. the 40 is however a poor choice for taking a deer and you would do better with a 357 41 or 44.

the prohibited methods for deer are as follows

self loading firearms with capacity of more than 11 combine in mag and chamber

buckshot

full metal jackets

fully auto firearms

a sighting device that casts light on the animal

I'm not familiar with Missouri State law concerning carrying a handgun while hunting. But if you are asking if the .40 S %26amp; W is adequate to pistol hunt deer with the anwer is: No.

The forty was designed to duplicate the performance of the .45 acp in a smaller platform pistol. Even the .45 acp is not adequate for deer hunting. The minimum is a .357 Magnum with at least a 6'; inch barrel and a .41 or .44 Magnum is even better. If you still want to handgun hunt with a semi-automatic consider the Glock Model 20 in 10mm. You can even get a 6'; Glock barrel for this model for about $130.

Best.

H
Better use something in caliber .41 Magnum and above for deer.
RBrown, go to a sporting goods store and ask for your state's hunting guide/laws. Also try missouridnr.org or a similar website to know exactly what you can and can't use huntin with a handgun. Here in Oh the gun has to have at least a 5 12'; barrel and be in the .357-.38, .41, 44-40, .44 .45 long colt 454 casull and .50 cal. range. It is illegal to hunt with a .25( no one who is a ';True sportsman would even try with this caliber) 9MM .32, .40 auto and .45 auto Also , look in the phonebook for the Dept of fish and wildlife resources under state govt. This is so get ya get the facts in writing and when and if ya can hunt with handguns, muzzle loader, shotgun, and highpower rifle, also bow season which is going on now here in Oh,Ky, Ind, W. Va. Each and every state has their own laws so don't mess up cause it can be a very expensive mistake if caught hunting with something banned p.s. Good luck and always get the property owner's written consent and remember to thank them for the opportunity to hunt on their private property
A 40 is not enough punch, the lowest reccomended foot pounds of energy for deer hunting is 900lbs and the 40 doesnt have that, I hunt in Louisiana with a .44mag and have no problem on any thing inside 100yrds, but really nothing under a .44 is recommended..
Good luck getting to with in 25 meters of the deer with the accuracy of hand guns and the 900 fps muzzle velocity you would have to hit the deer in the head to kill it..... some states dont allow hand guns to hunt deer with so check your local laws....
If the barrel is over 6 inches then maybe they will let you try it. NOT that its a good idea.

It would be foolish to try to take a deer with such a slow round. The least I would try would be a .357mag loaded with 180grn fmj's
legally you can, but the deer would have to be close. missouri's law states-- any centerfire expandable bullet is legal. so in terms of legality you could hunt with a .25 cal as long as it is either a hollow point or soft point. the law also states that you cannot carry both a pistol and a long gun, it's one or the other.
u cant carry a hand gun or use it u can only hunt with a riffle beacuse if they see u they will just asume u used the gun to to kill the animal and that illegal u could even go 2 jail
