I believe that it will be impossible to do so- Why do you think it is necessary to force your opinion on someone else is the thing to do? You are not exactly a good friend, you know.I'm trying to convince my friend that hunting deer for fun is screwed up?
Like everybody else here, I DON'T think it's screwed up. Here's why: It's healthy, natural, rewarding, put's food on the table, helps control the deer population so they don't die of disease and starvation, helps farmers whose crops are eaten by deer, and deer meat is better for you than beef, pork or chicken. It's low in fat, there are no added growth hormones or steriods and it tastes good. I don't know if you are a vegetarian or not, but consider this: Would you rather spend your life in a stall being force fed food laced with steroids and hormones or would you rather live free and eat natural foods? Ever eaten veal? That's a baby calf, kept in a little crate until it's butchered. Not to mention that you probably have at least a few items made from leather, belts shoes, purses, and they come from either pigs or cows, so you just consume a different animal than deer (or rabbit, or squirrel) hunters. And how about fish. The argument can even be taken a step further. Do you eat plants? Aren't they living things? Taking a life is a serious thing, even a deer's life. I don't really think it's ';fun'; to kill a deer, but I do find it very rewarding. I respect them and love to watch them when I'm hunting. Sometimes I kill one and sometimes I don't. They are beautiful animals but so are many other animals that we eat. At least the deer have a chance to live their lives in freedom and not in captivity.
What exactly gives you the right to force your opinion on him and why exactly would you imagine you would get help from a hunting forum

I live in Alaska - although my family and I enjoy being outdoors - hunting is to put meat on the table and fill the freezer. Can't say I have ever seen anybody getting all giddy and happy over a kill - because once the bullet strikes true - the work begins. And properly turning a deer into dinner is allot of work.
So, perhaps you are mistaken......... I do know plenty of guys on the East Coast who use hunting as an excuse to go into woods and get away from it all. Seems more 'manly' when you say it is hunting and bring a firearm!

think about how it spent its life..odds are it wasnt wild (seeing as you dont like that kinda thing) so it was in a cage all of its live..standing in its own crap and piss..getting beat by the farm workers. then to one day end it all...on the other hand you have us hunters. that spend many hours a season in the woods waiting to take a wild animal..that spent its life as free as it gets..no cages, no getting beat, no haveing to stand in its own piss and crap all day..then one day it gets shot in about 30 sec's its dead. what sounds better to you?
no true hunter enjoys the kill. when you see a hunter happy by its game, its because he/she knows theres food in the freezer for a while now. not because he/she just took a life.
As long as he doesn't waste the meat there is nothing you can do about it, and you shouldn't try. Trying to manipulate your friends is what's screwed up. Accept them as they are, or get new friends more to your liking.

It is one of the most NATURAL human pursuits and activities, going back millions of years. Nothing is more natural and good than hunting.
Maybe it's you whose values and perspective is ';screwed up';?
aside from being challenging, adventurous,and natural, it IS fun. what, you thought you could come into the hunting section and have hunters tell you it isn't enjoyable?
You came to a pro-hunting board looking for arguments against hunting? You really need to think about these things for more than 2 miliseconds before you act on it.

It is screwed up like no other, tell him what if people shot you just for fun? killing things for fun is just so low.
if you know what u r doing they dont feel it but if u r stupid and hit there legs and torture them then u shouldn't be doing it AT ALL
