How much is a good gun to hunt with and whats best for hunting deer?

Mr Andrew answer was very good no argument ther, also consider a a bolt action, you can get well set up for around 500 new, quite a bit less used. .308 winchester is an exelent choice for deer but think about the terrain youl be hunting in i live out west where ranges may be longer and more open. Whatever you chose practice practice practice, the shooter is the most important part of the shot. know what you can do with your choice of fierarm and dont go beyond that. be safe and have fun.How much is a good gun to hunt with and whats best for hunting deer?
If you live in a rifle or state or shotgun state makes a big difference. Shotgun, you cant beat a 20 or 12 gauge Remington 870 or mossberg 500. Rifles are a bit pricier as you generally need some kind of mount and scope. Theres somthing to fit everyones budget.

If your broke in a shotgun zone get a single shot 12ga or muzzle loader, or a mosin nagant with premium ammo if your broke in a rifle state.

As for cartridges for deer, just about anything can do the trick, but it depends on your conditions, how you hunt, etc. Everyone has a different preference. quick rule of thumb is a bigger caliber will keep more knock down power further down range.

Hope that helps. How much is a good gun to hunt with and whats best for hunting deer?
Well, it depends on your state laws. If it's a shotgun only state, then you can only use shotguns... in which case a nicely used 12 or 20 gauge mossberg 500 would run you probably $150 or so. A used Remmy 870 is pretty much the same price (unless it's a wingmaster).

When rifles come into play, I'd definitely suggest the Marlin 336 in .30-30. New? Probably around $320 or so... used you can find them for $250, and they're usually in good condition for that money. The 336 is tried and true... the .30-30 is enough shell to do pretty much anything... although it doesn't have the *longest* range... (notice the asterisks)
rifles- remington 700 number one also browning a-bolts are good to

shotguns- remington 870 number one for best out of the box cheap pump shotgun about 350-600 dallors, benelli super black eagle slug gun cost you about 1k but well worth it if you have the money number one overall for best semi auto shotgun for deer or birds
I use a beneli shot gun, which is actually really too expensive and not objectively ';the best';, but I like it and would not give it up for anything. You can get a good shot gun or a decent rifle for like, $500
what state are you hunting in, what's the terrain, what do you think the longest shot you'll have to take will be, and how do you plan to hunt tree stand or ground blind?
like they say depends on your state, i use a 410 with slugs , = to a 44 mag
use a camera... no licence required.
