If you wanna use a gun use a shotgun.

If you wanna cheat and shoot it while it's in a county over get a rifle.

If you want a hunting experience to the max get a bow.

But in all seriousness gotta take into consideration where you'll be hunting and how serious you wanna take it. Hunting woods there's no need for a rifle. Hunting praires a lot of guys opt for a rifle. Just think it all through and get whatever fits your style of hunting and committment. What is the best gun to go hunting for a deer?
I love guns. I own many. This year I am hunting with a 44 mag Marlin.

If I were to just buy one gun for everything, except dangerous big game like brown bear and white bear it would be and is a 30-06.

I do however hunt deer with a .308. It is a tad slower than the ought 6, but is still powerful enough to take deer.

If I were to use one gun for just deer hunting, and I were new to the art of marksmanship, I would get a .308. Ammo is cheap and abundant. If you plan to hunt other game, get a 30-06.

Or you can start working overtime, and buy at least one mission specific gun per year. After 20 years or so you will have a small arsenal of hunting and tactical guns, and no money to go out. You will then spend all your free time answering questions on line.

Happy Shopping!!
I'd say a shotgun like a Remington 870 or a .270 cal rifle, if your state allows using rifles. I'd avoid using pistols. A 870 with a slug barrel and slugs does anything you need it to and is cheap. It's probably the #1 deer gun out, and for reason. Make sure it's a 12 or 20 gauge.

---Side note---

And for the Pete's sake, how is hunting wrong, lady? How did you get your meat on the table? How do you think people have survived so long, by not getting protein from animals? Hunting is a fun sport, not mean. I know where my food comes from, I know it wasn't treated inhumanely and it wasn't injected with who knows what. You control your plate, I'll control mine.
It really depends on your situation are you in thick brush or open prarie in slose quarters the 30-30 lever may be your best bet but my personal favorite is the 270 WIN good long range lots of knockdown and shoots straighter than the 30'06

it can also be used for hunting larger game it has been said the the 270 will take down anything in North America
Your best choice since 1906 is the 30-06, because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from.*It will harvest any Game in North America cleanly and efficiently.* It has harvested more Deer than any other caliber, except for the 30-30 Winchester.*
There is a few calibers I would recommend 30.06 is probably the most common. Also a 270 or 308 are good guns and great for deer hunting. I have a Remington 270 and have never had a deer run after being shot. Also dont listen to those first couple of idiots go out enjoy the outdoors watch the animals and learn from them. Have FUN!!!
It depends if you are aloud to hunt with rifles or just shotguns. If its just shotguns the go with a 12 gauge. If you can hunt with rifles and you are in dense bush the get a marlin model 336 in a 30-30.cal. If you are in open field then get a 243, 270. win, or a 30-06
My favorite strictly deer-hunting rifle is an old Remington 700 ADL purchased new in 1974 for less than $120 US dollars. Caliber: .25-06 Remington.

But for deer a .243 Winchester or bigger will serve you well if you do your part. Stay away from sub-calibers like the .22 center-fire calibers though.

H
A 243 for feilds,270 for allround,30-06 or 30-30 for brush but with the 30-30 a very good shot is nessasay, and if you need to use a shot gun mossburg makes some good slug guns.
One that works well in your enviroment. Caliber, barrel length, sights/optics and ';the hunting spirit';.
Depends on many factors unique to the area that you will be hunting
there are 3 calibers i suggest a 12G,.270 and a .243

a sidearm for protection or backup a 9mm or a .45acp
id use maybe a 12 gauge shotgun
