In literal terms, it's referred to a young deer.
In figurative language, it's referred to an individual (human). Is a young buck a deer or a person?
In Wisconsin it usually refers to a deer. I've never used it referring to a person, but I've heard it.
I call a young person lad or lass and a buck is a young deer after being a foal.
