What calibre is better for deer?

7mm, .308, or 30-06? also which is the cheapest and which is has the most range? What calibre is better for deer?
I use a 7mm Rem Mag, but with the low-power rounds when hunting whitetail (to preserve meat). However, the 30-06 is so much cheaper that if I were doing this over again, I'd pick that. I like the 7mm mag better as a cartridge, but what good is it if you're paying over $1.50 per bullet and can barely afford to sight it in properly?

The 30-06 has so many bullet loadings available, and is so widespread (every manufacturer loads it) that it's the best all-around choice for American hunting. What calibre is better for deer?
there are lots of 7mm cartridges. I use a 7mm Remington Magnum, my wife shoots a 7mm-08 (.308 necked down to 7mm), there is also 7mm Rem short mag, 7mm Mauser, etc, etc. .30-'06 is probably the most versatile because of the availability of more bullet weights. You can load them from 110-220 grains or thereabouts. .308 in my opinion would be cheapest to shoot due to the availability of more surplus ammo. As far as range is concerned, the difference is negligible. They will all shoot farther than is ethical to shoot a deer.

Ask 20 people what is best and expect 20 answers. I use the 7mm Rem Mag because I have confidence in it and I shoot it pretty well.
Considering your spelling of caliber, I have to wonder what deer you're hunting.

In the US, our whitetails don't require so much as 308 or 30-06, though they're very popular. The latter, of course, outperforms the former, but since 308 is more than needed for those deer, it's a moot point. And you can't just drop ';7mm'; at that. There's a plethora of different chamberings in that bore size. I've outfitted a good portion of my family with 7mm08's, for instance, and use 7x57 Mauser myself. If you mean 7mm Remington Magnum, please say so. It's a bit flatter shooting than the others, but again, all are completely capable of taking deer at any range at which an ethical shot should be taken, so there's little point in wondering.
These moose-capable rifles on deer? Will you also use a mortar to soften up the hillside before hunting it with cruise missiles? Just because somebody blusters about how they can tear up half a deer carcass, doesn't make it a good idea. And all that recoil will mess up your aim, unless you are either brand new and the adrenaline makes you impervious to shock, or you are the veteran of thousands of practice shots at the range, and are now made of rawhide. For a realistic approach to hunting, try http://www.oldhunterrumors.com/ and a few other websites.
The tried, true, tested, and proven since 1906 is the 30-06, because you have a greater variety of bullet weights to choose from with it.* It will Harvest any Game, Big or Small effectively and efficiently in North America.* The vast majority of Big and Small Game is harvested within 100 yards or less.* A Magnum caliber is not needed or necessary to Hunt Game in North America.* Maximum effective range is 350 yards, but it is rarely necessary to shoot at this distance to harvest Big Game Animals.*
.308 or 30-06.....

I target shoot and sometimes hunt so the .308 is my choice...... If you target shoot a lot and hunt with the same rifle then the .308 is the superior choice.....

If your rifle will be dedicated to hunting only then the 30-06 would be the superior choice.... Lots of ammo choices for the 30-06....

Range???? all three have a good reach... At least 300 yards.... I generally do not recommend taking deer at longer distances... get closer -- That's what hunting's about....

i prefer the 30 caliber series in the thick brush here in missouri. I use a 30-06 I-Bolt by smith and wesson. it is highly accurate at long ranges and with the right scope and federal ammo (180gr) u can be sure you'll hit your mark. its accurate up to 400yrds. so its got the power to push through the dense woods and open ranges
I have M77 Hawkeye 270. I love this gun - use it for mule deer in Montana and shoot 130 grains. I have been constantly able to bring down deer at over 300 YDs. It is the best rifle I have owned.

Oh - and it doesn't tear the sh%%26amp; out of everything like a 300 mag...
All of them are more than powerful enough for deer. I would go with the .308 because it is a military standard round. As such, it is usually the cheapest to buy and is available everywhere.
well the 30-06,, better overall selection of off the self ammo,,ok tu eddie
the 30.06 is the best. it is a 30 calliber and made in 19';06';
.243 or a little harder 30-06. If you are tough and really wanna drop em' do a 300 Windmag... Ha ha heh that thing is BIG
