What is a good gun for me to hunt deer?

its long range,i used to shoot a 30-06 win. but hate the recoil do i need the hunter safety course for msWhat is a good gun for me to hunt deer?
Look into a .308 or .270

I've shot a .308 many times before and the recoil isn't too much. Both calibers have enough ';umph'; to knock down a deer, but remember, shot placement is important ;)

I'm 5'1 and the odds are that your taller than me (heck every one is lol), so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to handle the recoil from that. How you mount the gun has a good bit to do with the recoil. If you don't have the butt of the gun firmly pushed to your shoulder, the gun will have more room to move when the gun is fired, so that means a little bit more recoil. What is a good gun for me to hunt deer?
I am 6'4'; 240 lb and the build of a linebacker. I was formerly a genuine recoil addict, until I discovered that target accuracy only happens at low recoil.

SOOO, whenever I know I will be shooting a provided 30-06 on a canned hunt somewhere, I take along some downloads to halfway between 30-30 and 300 Savage at standard Cartridge Overall Length of COL 3.230'; to fit all standard guns. Any 150 grain spitzer softpoint over 44.4 grains of IMR-4064 gets about 2500 fps and 2080 ft-lbs, delivering 1060 ft-lbs at 300 yards. Set 2.7'; high at 100 yards, trajectory is dead on at 200 yds, and down 3'; at 225 yds, for a field aim 'n shoot the whole way. (With power out to 300 yds, a deer at 300 yds looks awfully small!) Little recoil, little venison damage, great shooter accuracy, and nobody can tell by looking at the rounds that they are ';special';, except for my feltpen mark. I personally use Nosler Partition bullets for all hunting when I can, just for an extra edge which only costs a few pennies, no extra recoil or venison damage.
You can use something as small as .223 Rem. I would suggest you say above the .243 Win. .25-06, 7mm-08 Rem, .308 Winchester. All these are great calibers.

If you want less recoil and can compromise with medium range I would suggest a .257 Roberts, or a .260 Rem, or 300 Savage.

i would personally suggest the 7mm-08. Its short action, and is a 7 mm bullet in a .308 casing and has some great looking ballistics. (140g HP) 2543 ft/lbs at the muzzle, 200 yrds, 1925 ft/lbs at 300 yrds 1663 ft/lbs. Which is about 100 lbs of force less then your 30-06 with alot less kick.

Just about everyone chambers a gun in 7mm-08 Rem.

For new blot actions guns: Savage makes a great rifle for a great price. Even their wood stock models are 300 dollars less then Remingtons 700 Deluxes. Rugers Hawkeye, is a great gun for the money.

If dont have a ton of extra cash go with a single shot New England. A, they are cheap. B, they make barrels in just about every caliber. C, you can always find a used one and buy a new/different barrel for it. D, they are safe and easy to use. you can always trade up later on in life
I am with annie on this. She's a girl and she can shoot a 308, so you should be able to also. Remington 700s are nice rifles, and they come in 308 and possibly other calibers to. Honestly you can't expect to take down deer with a pea shooter gun can ya? It takes bigger caliber guns, and if you don't like the recoil put a recoil pad on the stock and it will soften it a little bit.
Well if you don't like the recoil of the 30.06 I would suggest buying a recoil pad, that way you don't have to go out and buy a whole new firearm

Here are some affordable recoil pads:

But if you really want to buy a whole new firearm, I would suggest getting a .270 Winchester or a .308 Both will get the job done
well look into a .270 winchester that shoots really long and flat. if that's still much for you to handle then either man up or look into a .243 that's about the smallest you can use for deer. every state requires you to attend a hunter safety course to hunt.
6.5x55 Swede, .270 win or .308 win ant of these are suitable for deer.
Then you want a 243 Winchester.*
Try a 243 or 270. They are both great long distance cartridges and do a job on deer if hit properly.
get a .243 or a .308. Use 100 grain SPs for the .243.
243,25-06,270 will do the job..........
